Quantum Effects and Intent

It has been said that with focused intent, all things are possible - and this is a fundamental tenant of what we do.

In one mind-over-matter experiment conducted by Dr. Tiller, a group of individuals put their awareness on an electrical circuit which contained a crystal. They then implanted an intent that the pH of water would either go up or go down. The circuits were wrapped in aluminum foil and shipped overnight to a lab across the country, turned on, and set beside a water sample. The room was isolated so that people did not enter, and all environmental factors of the room were carefully monitored.

Despite the precautions, the water samples did respond exactly to the mind power as the meditators intended. PH rose or fell according to the intentions a full 1.5 pH.

While a single experiment cannot prove the phenomenon, it illustrates the hypothesis, and shows that experimentation suggests that there are, indeed, effects worthy of more study. Much like a new drug or supplement that shows promise, looking more closely into what's going on is clearly indicated. At a minimum, working towards reproducible results can eliminate the counterargument that anecdotal evidence is no evidence at all.

But we have much more than anecdotal evidence, even now. While showing how intent can be used is problematic, the fact that it exists is, surprisingly to some, not in dispute.

Read that again - it's not in dispute!

Quantum Effects and Intent

Many people with little or no interest in quantum physics may have heard the phrase that, "the observer affects the observed." This is a reference to the mind-bending physics experiment, the "double slit experiment."

The double slit experiment works like this: If a particle, say a photon, is fired through a single slit in a barrier, it will appear as a dot on a target on the other side of the slit. You could think of it as a bullet going through a narrow doorway and leaving a hole on the far wall. However, if you have two slits, the particle does something strange and somehow forms a wave pattern instead of a dot. If the path of the particles are knowable, they responds as particles. When we don't know the path, they respond as waves.Is the photon passing through one slit or both slits at once? Is it colliding with itself on the far side, or is something else happening? The question can't be answered because the moment scientists install a detector to see what's going on, you no longer see the wave pattern, and it only registers as a particle. This phenomenon is known as "collapsing the wave."

The bottom line is that when there is no detector, you see a wave pattern, and when there is a detector, you observe particles. This has been termed "the observer effect". Somehow, the process of recording observations with a detector consistently changes the outcome of that experiment.

Manifesting Intent, Yourself

From its beginnings, spell-casting and intent have been inseparable. Even in cases where a spell has a clear desired outcome, intent can play a part in the shaping of that outcome. Understanding where much of the intent comes from and how it affects the outcome can help improve your craft.

Much like the double-slit experiment, there is much more "going on" that we simply don't understand, but the end effects can be seen and measured.

Quantum effects weren't known more than a few decades ago, but still existed. Knowing them now gives insight into how modern technology and components can be used along-side traditional methods. Using modern components in your spells can leverage these quantum effects for even better results.And as we learn more, we can adapt and improve.
